It is that time of the year again. The time brands put their best effort to win peoples, heart.
Here is my list of best 5 Christmas campaigns for the year 2018.
Say Hello to Rang- tan – Iceland Food
The frozen food giant focuses its campaign against the use of palm oil in the production of food and cosmetics, which is driving rainforests destruction. The campaign featuring baby orangutan was banned by saying its too political to broadcast.
The advert starts a baby orangutan playing and destroy little girl’s toys in her room including her clothes and other stuff. The girl gets angry and asking orangutan to leave the house. Sad orangtun leave the house, saying: “There’s a human in my forest and I don’t know what to do. He took away my mother, and I’m scared he’ll take me too” At the end, the girl promises orangutan to help spreading the story.
Even though the advert is banned from broadcasting, this advert was watched by more than 40 million people and became this year’s one of the most watched Christmas advert in online. Well, banning the advert gets more attention and definitely it helps to spread the story across the world.
Gifts That Gets Them – Boots
The second in my list is health and beauty retailer and pharmacy chain, Boot’s Gift that gets them. In this heartwarming advert a teenager is displaying of love presenting her mother with a red lipstick to wear for the next choir performance as a Christmas gift. It shows how much a small gesture can mean to someone that you care about.
I would say the lyrics of Robbie Williams’ ‘She’s The One’ into ‘She’s Me Mum’ bring extra touchy feeling while watching it. It really gives the feeling of christmas.
The Boy and The Piano – John Lewis
This is one of the most awaited advert because of the successful campaigns they had in past years. Rather than telling a fictional story this time John Lewis has decided to depict famous singer Elton John’s rise to fame.
The video opens with Elton sitting in his home. With a very grand Christmas tree, playing the first few notes of Your Song.
The story begins in present day and works backwards chronologically through Elton’s life, right until the moment he received the special gift of his grandmother’s piano that changed his life forever because some gifts are more than just a gift.
Close Your Eyes and Think of Christmas – Burberry
The fourth in my list is one of my favourite brand Burberry’s Close Your Eyes and Think of Your Christmas. This amid the plethora of joyful, cheery Christmas adverts takes an eerie look at familial traditions with a star-studded cast.
The short film is aesthetically stunning, shot and directed by innovative artist and photographer Juno Calypso.
From all of all the Christmas adverts released this year, this one is definitely one of the most visually captivating and artistic.
The Big Night – Salisbury
I am concluding my list with one of the largest supermarket chain Sainsbury’s The Big Night, which shines a spotlight on eight-year-old Tia Isaac as she sings a show-stopping rendition of the New Radicals’ hit song ‘You Get What You Give’ while dressed as a star for her school’s festive play.
This advert is an absolute delight from start to finish, especially given the parallels that can be drawn between Isaac’s performance and that of Olivia Olson at the end of Love Actually.
Everything about this campaign is spectacularly executed, from Isaac’s growing confidence as she conquers her nerves to bring the house down with her musical talents to the hilarious costumes worn on stage by her fellow classmates.
Thank you for reading. Wish you a very happy Merry Christmas.
